News for OEW
- 4th November – we’re almost there! The Audio library (we’re now calling it the Our Earth Week Collection) is almost complete, but we’ll be adding messages at the last minute from our correspondents at the COP talks so keep an eye out for those. The Handbook is now available for you to print out too. And if you haven’t already, do go on the Trello dashboard which has lots of links and information all in one place. Means you don’t have to trawl through lots of information.
- 16th September: Our Earth Week now has a Trello Dashboard for stations and producers to use for information and resources. For those of you that don’t know Trello, it’s software for organisation, and is essentially a series of lists, containing cards, which themselves can contain lots of information. It’s a way of keeping in touch with what’s happening all in one place! So on the dashboard you will find a description of Our Earth Week, a template invitation to send out to stations, publicity assets such as logos and social media posts, links to useful organisations, past emails (that will possibly be one of the most useful elements!) and also information about what’s going to be in this year’s OEW and links to the audio library and handbook etc. If you want access to the dashboard then email crenuk1@gmail.com
- 16th Sept 2025: CREN will be talking about OEW at the next Community Media Conference in October in Bradford. We’ll be encouraging stations to sign up and be part of it, and hope to see some of our participating stations there!
- 12 August 2025: We are very excited to announce that Lake District Radio will be running a marathon 24-hour live show for Our Earth Week, on Friday 14th November! Lee Durrant, the DJ and Presenter will be presenting the show, which will feature “Unexpected Number Twos”, a whole series of songs that only got to number 2 (unexpectedly) and highlighting the problem of the other number twos, sewage, in both his local lake, Lake Windemere, and other lakes and rivers around the country. Well done Lee and Lake District Radio!
- 30 July 2025: there will be two online sessions in early September for people to come and say hello and find out more, and to give feedback and ideas for this year’s OEW. We’ve scheduled two meetings, one in the morning, and one in the late afternoon, to give as many people as possible who want to the chance to attend. Morning meeting is on 1st September at 11.00 and the second one is 9th Sept at 5.pm. Please email crenuk1@gmail.com if you wish to attend these and don’t have the link.
- The need to advance urgent action on the triple planetary crisis is acute in 2025—climate change, nature, land and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste continue to take a terrible toll on the wellbeing of both people and the planet. United Nations Environmental Programme, January 2025. And this is why Our Earth Week will be back in November! Our aim this year is to gather many more stations to take part. If you’d like to join this inspirational event, then please email crenuk1@gmail.com
- Our Earth Week is now over! What a brilliant week it was. There was so much going on, it’s actually impossible to encapsulate it all in one short paragraph. But watch out for some blog posts from different stations which will give us all an idea of what everyone was up to during that week!
- 14 Nov: well we’re more than halfway through the week, and what a week it’s been! So many stations doing so many brilliant things. So much creativity, and passion and hardwork on display so thank you everyone so much who’s taking part. The latest contribution comes from Bradford Radio and features 4 school children discussing the Big Questions that we’ve all been talking about all week, and take a guess at a couple of the mystery sounds. It’s available now in the OEW Library in the station uploads folder. There is so much material now we really need to shift to Our Earth Month!
- 11 Nov – what an opening day it’s been (and it’s not even over yet). We’ve had loads of stations discussing the big question of the day; enjoying guessing the mystery sounds, and exploring all the amazing content that we now have in the OEW library. More stations are joining us so welcome! And if you’re reading this and you want to take part, email us at crenuk1@gmail.com We’ve heard from the Institute of Policy Research at the COP talks and they have said we should be hearinng from their youth delegates. This week is going to fly by!
- STATIONS TAKING PART IN OEW. We never know for sure who’s taking part in OEW, but here’s a map which will show you the stations that took part last year, and more that have joined us this year! https://maps.app.goo.gl/LLtKxF4hA8TPUUJs8
- 7 Nov Have just had a conversation with Amy from the Institute of Policy Research at the University of Bath. The IPR has several delegates going to the COP talks next week and we are very hopeful that they will be sending us some messages direct from COP. They are extraordinary young people so we are very excited at the prospect of hearing from them!
- 6 Nov: not long to go now! We are getting more stations joining in and we will start compiling a list of stations who are definitely taking part on the OEW pages shortly.
- 2 Nov Hi everyone, we now have a great little film made for us by a student in Bedford, teasing the Mystery Sound quiz which we will be running on Instagram during Our Earth Week. You can get the film from the OEW Library in the Trailer and Jingles Folder. If you can, please post it this week on your Instagram feed!
- 31 Oct: just over a week to go! Very pleased to announce that we are hoping to receive a message for our listeners direct from the COP 29 talks from Samia Dumbuya, who is a climate justice advocate and educator. She is one of the youth delegates attending. Watch out for any messages from her in the OEW Library in the COP messages folder.

- 25th Sept UPDATE ON CONTENT: WE have received a message from Climate Emergency UK about their climate scorecards project (climate scorecards are a way of assessing how councils are doing on meeting their climate and biodiversity pledges) so that’s going into the OEW Library! We now have a wonderful collection of pieces about different birds and their song, courtesy of the Birdsong Academy to play each day during the week. We are also hoping to send out the Schools Birdsong Challenge leaflet out to participating stations and producers for them to distribute to their local schools. And there are loads more irons in the fire!
- 19th Sept: COP 29 TALKS: it looks like we are going to have at least two or three people sending us some messages from the COP talks in Azerbaijan! This will give our listeners a real sense of what’s happening on the ground; can’t wait to hear what they have to say. Will confirm who’s going to be there soon.
